Single Parenting Tips
Single Parenting Tips are more important in the modern world than they have ever been before. As more and more people find themselves in the position of having to bring up children alone, often through no choice of their own, advice is desperately needed. The positive side is that there is so much information available to help single parents cope with their situation, and give their children the best upbringing they are capable of.
One of the common mistakes that single parents make when they have gone through a divorce is to assume that the children are not affected by it, just because there is no visible sign of a problem. Many children will be able to put on an appearance of calm, when the divorce has in reality affected them deeply. They may even be doing this deliberately, thinking that it will be helpful to take worry away from the single parent, who already has enough to deal with. It is important to take the time to talk through the problems with the child, and make it clear that you are available should they need to talk something out.
One of the most important of single parenting tips is not to bring any of the marital problems into the new arrangement. It is over. Finished. The divorce has happened, so it is too late now to keep bringing up all of the old problems, and that is the one thing that causes the most distress to any children of the broken marriage. In most break up situations, the children will already have had to witness arguments and bad feeling that will have caused them great distress. The last thing they need is to have this prolonged, now that the break up is over.
Being a single parent is very difficult, and can often mean you have a very busy life, with so little time to spend with your child. This is understandable, but it is vital that you are able to spare at least some time on a regular basis with your children. Try and fit this in to a definite routine. If your children get used to spending time with you at the same time, regularly, then they will begin to look forward to it, and feel less down at other times when you can't be there for them.
Use the time that you do have with your children as productively as possible. Try to build up self esteem as you go along, by giving more attention to your children when they do well, because children naturally repeat what gets them attention. This is one of the most vital of single parenting tips.

Tips On Parenting (Tip #1)
Stay involved. Ask your child about school, their grades, their friends, where they're going and what they're doing. The more involved you are, the less likely they are to get involved with negative influences. |
Tips On Parenting (Tip #2)
Be a parent, not a friend. Remember, as a parent you are not trying to be a friend to your child, although all of us would like to be. You need to be doing what is best for their health and safety and try to ensure they have a successful future.

Tips On Parenting (Tip #3)
Practice what you preach. You need to remember that everything you do has an effect on your child. They imitiate parents like you wouldn't believe, so be cautious of what you say and do around them. |
